A wealth of information exists in Recurly, making it a logical step to provide dashboards and reports to serve the analytics needs of our merchants. Early in 2014, we began down the path ourselves, building and socializing a minimum viable product (MVP) dashboard. We worked closely with a group of customers to gather feedback and put what we learned into a beta version.
Every merchant who tried the beta dashboard found it useful. One of the key pieces of feedback was the desire to have more flexibility and options for customization. There is benefit in showcasing important metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) such as recurring revenue, lifetime value and churn rate. However, even more beneficial is providing a flexible analytics platform that allows for custom time ranges, drilldown into underlying data, and additional features beyond what the beta dashboard offers. Recurly serves a wide variety of merchants, and our merchants each have different questions they want to ask of their data. We know our merchants require something more personalized, so they can understand their business at a detailed level.
Fortunately, several third-party offerings build analytics based on Recurly data. Tools such as DataHero and ChartMogul allow you to construct your own reports and dashboards with key metrics brought in from Recurly. Amity, Preact and Sparked are examples of customer success platforms that offer Recurly data connectors as well as predictive modeling. There are also options for data synchronizations beyond analytics, with robust platforms like Bedrock Data and Zapier. If you want to build your own integration but don’t have the development resources, companies like FindTrusted will help you find an experienced integrator, regardless of your use case.
Here at Recurly, our development efforts are focused on revisiting our data model and building a more robust partner platform, and we will not be itterating on our beta dashboard. This dashboard is still available for merchants who would like to try our functionality. For merchants who want to take their data further, we are pleased to share the beginnings of the Recurly integration program. We’re very excited about this endeavor, as it allows us to provide a wealth of new features — from more granular role-based access controls to a more robust data model that supports all the bespoke analytics you want. Building a flexible, scalable platform will allow Recurly to grow and evolve a rich ecosystem, offering our merchants the variety of tools they need to be successful.
This is just the first step on an exciting path for Recurly and our integrators. We highly encourage you to review our current available integrations. As always, we love to hear what you think, so if you are interested in a specific feature or integration, please take this survey and tell us what you’d like to see in Recurly’s future.
