What Bidwill is referring to is the NFL’s switch to digitally streaming games, with the Internet possibly becoming the exclusive means by which fans will consume pro football content. Of course, attending a live game will always be the preferred option for some. But for the millions of other fans who arrange their Sundays and Monday evenings around that week’s televised pro football matchups, changes are afoot. The reality is that the Internet and various streaming services (called Over the Top, or OTT) are where the NFL’s fans are—and Bidwill recognizes that. As many as ever are watching the games, but they’re doing so on tablets and mobile devices and, he says, “we want to respond to that.”
